about basta. + alexis

“Hi I’m Alexis! I’ve been baking since I was young and although I tried lots of different hobbies and career paths, I came back to the thing that helped me to feel like everything would be okay: baking. As a vegan, I hope to inspire vegans and non-vegans alike to align their beliefs with their actions, especially those related to food. Why not be a little kinder to the planet while eating dessert? Why not be a little kinder to animals while sharing food with those you love?

If basta. teaches us one thing, I hope it’s that we can make a difference even by our smallest actions.

My dream of making the world better one bite at a time is becoming a reality thanks to you.”

Let’s get this out of the way. What does basta even mean? Basta means enough in Italian, Spanish, and Porteguese. When Alexis studied abroad in Italy, she learned that word quickly as she pointed to cookies, croissants, or any kind of dessert and would say “basta” when they had put enough of it in her bag. It also is an expression of, hopefully, how we all feel. That we’ve all had enough with the problems and issues in the world and we’re ready to do something about it. Even if that means we have to sacrifice and eat yummy dessert.

basta. started in January 2020 when wildfires were raging across Australia. Alexis decided she didn’t want to sit back and do nothing so she baked like she’s done since she was little. 100% of the proceeds went to two organizations to help provide resources and relief. When George Floyd was murdered, Alexis decided it was time to bake again. Two organizations were donated to to empower urban youth and help fight racism at the root. What couldn’t banana bread help with?

basta. was created out of a desire to change the world. It sounds lofty but by purchasing even a single loaf, you are helping to make a difference. While being able to provide high quality dessert to you, we wanted to actively say “We’ve had enough!” and do something about the problems and issues in the world.

We actively work on aligning our values and actions every single day. We use recycled materials whenever possible and are trying our hardest to go plastic free. More improvements are always going on behind the scenes. If you ever have any concerns about our environmental impact or the materials we use, message us!
